Rarity Farming
What is Rarity Farming?
Rarity Farming is a play-to-earn mechanic in the Aavegotchi ecosystem that rewards players for boosting the rarity of their Aavegotchi NFTs.
Each season of Rarity Farming generally lasts eight-weeks and allows Aavegotchis to compete in three categories: Rarity, Kinship, and XP.
New seasons do not happen automatically - they must be voted on by AavegotchiDAO.
Leaderboards
In each season of Rarity Farming, the rarest Aavegotchis in each given category (Rarity, Kinship, XP) receive a distribution of GHST rewards that can be claimed by their owners.
To participate in Aavegotchi Rarity Farming, you need to own an Aavegotchi or borrow one from a player who is offering a split on GHST earned during the borrowing period with Gotchi Lending.
To increase your Aavegotchi's chance of earning GHST, you can do the following:
Rarity
Carefully select an Aavegotchi with rare traits during the summoning process
Equip wearables to modify the traits of your Aavegotchi.
Level your Aavegotchi up and spend Spirit Points
Kinship
Pet your Aavegotchi
Consume Kinship Potions
XP
Participate in events and activities that can boost your Aavegotchi's XP
Vote in AavegotchiDAO and claim XP for your Aavegotchis
Drink XP Potions
Sacrifice Aavegotchis and transfer their XP
Rewards
The distribution of Rarity Farming rewards is based on a descending curve, with the top few Aavegotchis earning more GHST rewards than other Gotchis positioned lower on the curve. The proportion of rewards allocated to each of the categories (Rarity, Kinship, and XP) is decided each season by the AavegotchiDAO.
Gotchi Battler
Gotchi Battler is a game voted on by AavegotchiDAO and implemented by Immaterial that aims to further gamify the Rarity leaderboard, which has become stale in recent seasons.
Began in Season 7 and continued in Season 8, Gotchi Battler pits teams of 5 Aavegotchis against each other in a series of double-elimination tournaments.
In Season 8, AavegotchiDAO voted to allocate 10% of total rewards (150,000 GHST) to Gotchi Battler. If no CoreProp is passed, this allocation will increase to 20% starting in Season 9. This means that Aavegotchi owners have even more opportunities to earn rewards and enhance their overall Rarity Farming performance.

Rewards
Generally, the total prize pool for each Rarity Farming Season is 1.5M GHST. This is not a fixed amount, however, and can be adjusted each season by the proposer of the Rarity Farming proposal.
